Paloma Elsesser-inspired makeup: a burgundy mouth with a quiet mauve eye in five minutes

Keep burgundy as the clear lip edge and mauve as a small eye wash, with no extra palette purchases.

A fictional woman with medium warm brown skin and dark straight hair wearing a defined burgundy mouth and small quiet mauve lid wash with a white blouse.

Burgundy needs a controlled boundary; mauve needs a small amount and a place to stop. Those are the two jobs in this kit. The colour relationship comes from our Paloma Elsesser-inspired edit, while this shortened routine is an original variation on a fictional model rather than a claim about her products.

Keep the lip that does the job

Choose a familiar burgundy lip colour you can place without repeatedly retracing the edge. Begin in the middle, spread a thin coat towards the natural border, then use a clean suitable lip applicator at the corners. Open the mouth slightly for that check. A colour name is not enough: burgundy can appear deeper or redder on different lips, so choose the depth you want to see.

If a section strays, lift the misplaced colour locally before filling any genuine gap. Adding a heavy second border makes the job harder. A separate lip pencil is optional outside this edit, not an automatic purchase. The familiar lip colour and a controlled amount should first have a chance to work.

Burgundy defines the mouth while a thin mauve wash stays on the external lid and the remaining skin remains visible.

Make mauve the smaller purchase

Use one eye-intended mauve shadow with a separate clean suitable eye applicator. Put a little on the external lid space you can reach comfortably, then soften its boundary without carrying it up towards the brow. Keep the eye relaxed while checking the visible area. If the wash is stronger than you wanted, lift a little colour from its edge instead of surrounding it with another shade.

Complete your usual preparation and protection first. This look does not need an additional base, brow or contour purchase to qualify as finished. Keep existing suitable tools, clean them according to their directions and preserve product labels so you can check intended use.

What changes in a smaller bag

Everyday: use the thinnest mauve wash that remains visible and a deliberate burgundy edge. Leave further eye definition out.

Weekend: make the lip fill a little lighter while retaining its natural boundary. The burgundy still gives casual clothes a focal detail without a new eye step.

Holiday: allow your usual protection its proper preparation time, then use the mauve only where you can place it in the available mirror. Carry the familiar lip applicator if you choose to check the edge later; a colour category is not a promise of wear.

Five minutes estimates the familiar core after preparation, not a first experiment with a dark shade. The next purchase trigger is specific: a missing mauve you actually want to wear, or a tool that cannot reach the lip corner comfortably. If both jobs already work, leave the rest of the palette on the shelf.
