THE KNOWN BEAUTY STUDIO

Privacy notice

Known Beauty publishes knownbeauty.com and is responsible for the personal information used to run the site and respond to messages. For privacy questions, requests or complaints, email contact@knownbeauty.com.

Reading, saving and finding guides

You do not need a reader account to use Known Beauty. Saving a guide or ticking a checklist stores guide IDs and tick states in your browser. These records do not create an account or sync between devices. The finder and guide filters work in the page; they do not ask for a photograph or send your choices to an external recommendation service.

You can remove saved guides and untick checklist items on the Saved page, or clear the site’s data in your browser. Clearing saved guides does not by itself erase checklist ticks. These records remain in that browser until removed or cleared. Cookies & browser storage explains the controls.

Full-site search sends your search words to the website so it can return matching pages. Avoid putting personal or sensitive information into a search.

Email enquiries and corrections

The contact and correction boxes prepare an email draft in your browser. You review and send it using your own email app or webmail. The website does not submit the message to a website contact database.

When you email us, we receive your sending address, message and any details or attachments you include. We use them to answer your enquiry, investigate a correction or handle a privacy request or complaint. Contacting Known Beauty does not subscribe you to marketing emails. Please do not send medical records, passwords or payment details.

We keep correspondence while resolving the matter and dealing with related follow-up. Once it is resolved, we assess whether the message is still needed to explain an editorial correction, handle an unresolved complaint or meet a specific legal requirement. We delete personal information or keep an anonymised editorial record when it is no longer needed for those purposes. We review that need when a matter closes and when any related follow-up or complaint ends; we do not retain messages indefinitely just in case they become useful.

Hosting and service providers

IONOS hosts this website. Its published Web Hosting information describes technical visitor records such as the requested page, access time and browser or device information. IONOS states that visitor data is anonymised when collected and stored for eight weeks. That published visitor-data period is separate from our correspondence retention criteria above.

Hosting and email providers process information needed to deliver the website, transmit or store messages, and protect their services. Your own email provider also handles messages you send. We do not add advertising, newsletter, social-media tracking or audience-measurement scripts to this site.

Why we use personal information

We rely on legitimate interests in running a working and secure editorial website, responding to messages people choose to send, maintaining accurate guides and dealing with privacy concerns. We limit the information used to what is needed for those purposes. You can read the guides without emailing us.

Your rights and right to object

You can ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and request deletion or restriction of its use. You can also object to processing based on legitimate interests. These rights depend on the circumstances and any applicable exceptions. Data portability applies where its legal conditions are met.

Email contact@knownbeauty.com to make a request. Tell us enough to locate the information, without sending unnecessary sensitive details. Browser-only saved guides and ticks can be removed using the controls described above; they are not a reader account we can access for you.

Privacy complaints

You have the right to complain to Known Beauty about how we use your personal information. Send the details to contact@knownbeauty.com and identify it as a privacy complaint.

You also have the right to complain to the UK data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Its complaint service is available at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/.
