A soft low bun with one fabric bow

Build the style from three anchors: a comfortable low gathering point, a loosely coiled bun and one small fabric bow that decorates rather than supplies all the hold.

Rear three-quarter view of a fictional adult with silver-streaked dark hair in a relaxed low bun and a small navy bow.

Secure a comfortable low bun first, then add one small fabric bow. The bow supplies the finishing detail; it does not have to hold all the hair. The fictional model’s natural waves and silver streaks remain part of the shape.

Vogue’s October 2026 hair reporting includes bows among its accessory observations. A relaxed low gathering gives that detail a useful everyday setting.

Gather, coil, decorate

Use your usual gentle detangling approach if needed. Gather the hair at the nape with your hands and choose a comfortable part, or no distinct part. Secure a low ponytail with a soft tie, using only the tension needed to hold it. Turn your head and raise your chin; release and gather again if the front pulls.

Three rear-view hair stages show a comfortable low gathering, loose coil secured separately and a small fabric bow at the supported base.

Loosely twist or coil the ponytail around its base. Hold the shape while securing small sections with smooth pins appropriate to your hair and their instructions. Do not push harder when a pin meets resistance or scrapes the scalp. Shorter pieces can remain loose rather than being pulled into place.

Attach the bow at the supported base. With ribbon, tie it around the hair tie rather than relying on ribbon alone to hold the bun. Keep the knot comfortable and the tails short enough not to catch repeatedly on jewellery, a collar or your chair.

Navy gives a quiet accent beside brown, black or grey hair. Cream adds contrast; burgundy brings warmth. Choose one colour and a scale that leaves the bun visible if that is the shape you want to show. It can relate to a bag or neckline without matching every accessory.

If the bun needs too much effort

For dense or long hair, try a lower, broader coil. If shorter lengths will not stay or the style needs uncomfortable tension, leave it as a low ponytail and put the bow around its tie. That is a complete version of the look.

Put on your actual coat, turn your head and sit down. Check the back with a mirror if useful. Release any pin or tie that pulls or presses. Stop when the shape feels comfortable through ordinary movement and the bow sits where you want it.
