The exercise is to keep copper small. A burgundy lip can carry the depth while one restrained reflection catches the light at the centre of the lid. This is a short practice variation of the copper-and-burgundy palette in our Jill Scott-inspired edit, rather than a full eye routine.
Set one boundary before starting
Put out a familiar burgundy lip colour, an eye-intended copper cream shadow, separate clean lip and eye applicators, and a mirror. Choose a copper whose shine you enjoy without adding a large glitter particle. Follow its directions for placement. The lip colour belongs on the lips; using the same warm colour family does not make formulas interchangeable.
The five-minute version assumes your usual preparation and protection are complete and both products are familiar. If the copper placement is new, practise that alone without a deadline. A finished burgundy mouth with bare lids remains a useful stopping point.
First round: establish the mouth
Place a little burgundy inside the natural lip boundary. Spread it through the centre, then join the colour to the corners with short inward strokes. Keep the mouth relaxed as you work. Look up from the close mirror: the lip should read as one dark red-purple area, without a separate heavy ring. Add colour only where your own lip still interrupts the coverage.
Second round: find the reflection
With the clean eye applicator, touch a small amount of copper onto the central external movable lid, above the upper lashes. Keep it away from the waterline and inner rim. Soften only the perimeter, leaving the centre visible. Open the eye comfortably and see where the light appears. The visible lid space may be different on each side; the reflection can be slightly different in size too.
If copper has spread farther than intended, lift the outer excess with a clean applicator and a suitable remover according to its instructions. Do not keep blending it towards the brow. If either product causes irritation, stop using it. The checkpoint is a burgundy mouth first, a small copper interruption second.
Keep the exercise useful
Everyday: use the smallest copper patch you can still see when you turn your head. Leave the outer lid uncoloured so there is no eye shape to rebuild later.
Evening: inspect the lip and copper in the light where you are getting ready, then in a second ordinary light. If the copper disappears, concentrate a little more in the same small area rather than enlarging it.
Celebration: try the palette beside your chosen jewellery or neckline. If both already shine, retain a thin copper reflection and let burgundy stay the strongest colour. You do not need a third metallic.
Next time, repeat the same small central placement before changing the shade. Being able to stop the copper where you intended is the skill.
