Jenna Ortega-inspired plum-brown eye and mauve lip makeup

Use plum-brown close to the upper lashes, a little taupe on the outer lid and a muted mauve lip. Adjust colour depth to your skin and keep the eye edge soft enough for your own lid shape.

A fictional young adult woman with light-medium warm olive skin and dark hair wearing soft plum-brown lash definition, restrained taupe outer lids and muted mauve lips with charcoal and black lace.

A plum-brown lash line and muted mauve lip give this Jenna Ortega-inspired palette a dark romantic mood without a heavy eye. The effect belongs to colour and soft edges, not a copied face.

Apply the palette in six steps

  1. Keep the base selective

Use your familiar skin preparation and let it settle before applying a little concealer or base only where you want coverage. Keep the finish comfortable rather than trying to erase every feature. The quiet base leaves room for the plum line and lip to carry the mood.

  2. Find a readable plum-brown

Choose an eye product labelled for the eye area that looks plum-brown on your skin. Swatch a small amount on the back of your hand to judge depth and texture. A shade that disappears may need more depth, while a very red purple can change the effect.

  3. Mark the upper lashes lightly

With the eye relaxed and open, place short marks close to the outer upper lashes. Join them gently without filling the whole mobile lid. Keep product off the inner rim unless it is explicitly intended for that use; a lash line is enough for this version.

  4. Soften with a little taupe

Use a small brush to blur the upper edge, then add a restrained taupe wash to the outer mobile lid. Pause with both eyes open so the colour follows your visible space. If you have a hooded lid, a narrower band may feel cleaner than a broad painted shape.

  5. Choose the cheek and lip balance

Tap a little muted rose blush where you like colour on your own cheeks. Apply a mauve lip that has enough brown or rose depth to sit comfortably against your skin. Follow your natural outline and soften the border with a clean fingertip or suitable lip brush.

  6. Review and remove comfortably

Look at the result in ordinary daylight and from a conversational distance. Add mascara only if you want more definition; keep it separate from the decision to darken the shadow. At the end of the day, use suitable remover gently rather than rubbing the delicate eye area.

Adapt the colours and placement

For deep skin, try a richer aubergine-brown and deeper rose-mauve rather than adding a pale base to force the pictured colours. On very fair skin, use a light hand and soften the pencil before layering. Mature or textured lids can use a satin or matte taupe instead of a strong sheen. None of these choices depends on height; adjust to skin, comfort and the eye space you can see.

Questions before you begin

Does the eye need a wing?

No. A short softly defined upper-lash line carries the mood without a flick. If you enjoy a wing, make a small one with your eye open and let each side follow its own shape rather than forcing identical angles.

Must I wear both plum and mauve?

No. Keep one colour if you prefer a simpler version. A plum-brown eye with a familiar lip balm or a mauve lip with quiet lashes still relates to the palette without requiring a complete new kit.
