Bella Hadid-inspired dark bootcut denim with an ivory vest for petite plus-size proportions

Set dark bootcut jeans for the lower of your two actual soles, then add an ivory vest and an optional tan overshirt.

Hem the dark bootcut jeans for the lower of your two actual shoe soles, then check them in the other pair. A bootcut hem that drags in tan flat mules won’t become practical because it looks tidy in cream trainers. Start with the jeans, opaque ivory vest and tan bag; add the tan suede-look overshirt only after the base fits. The Bella Hadid-inspired starting point is bootcut denim with a simple top, reworked here without requiring western boots.

Make the base work first

Put on the jeans and sit. Check the rise, waist and room across the thigh before looking at length. Petite plus-size jeans may need a shorter inseam while retaining room elsewhere; the position of the bootcut opening also matters. If the flare starts in an awkward place for you, compare a different cut rather than removing so much length that the shape disappears. Pin a proposed hem and test it before altering.

The light version is the opaque ivory vest, dark bootcut jeans, tan flat mules and compact tan bag. Check the vest against daylight with your chosen underlayers, then reach forward and overhead. Choose a neckline and armhole that give the coverage you want without repeated adjustment. The tan bag carries the essentials; check the strap length with a loaded bag rather than using the jeans pockets as storage.

Add the overshirt without changing the base

The layered version adds the tan suede-look overshirt, pictured with cream canvas trainers. Try it open so the ivory centre remains visible. If you want to close it, check the buttons and upper arms when seated and reaching. Compare its hem with the jean pockets; it should sit where you enjoy the proportion, without pushing the vest into a ridge. Suede-look describes an appearance, not a specific care method: check the actual label before buying or cleaning it.

Choose a shoe, then check the rear hem

Tan flat mules: keep the tan bag and either top-half version. Take several steps and turn. The open heel must stay secure without gripping; the jean hem must not slide under it. Use a secure tan flat instead if this shape doesn’t hold. Cream canvas trainers: keep the same bag, add the intended socks and lace the actual shoes. Check the hem against the collar and sole on a stair. A thick sole can change how the bootcut falls even when both shoes are called flat.

Three uses, with their limits

Everyday: for local errands and a café, choose cream trainers, the light vest-and-jeans base and tan bag. For a shorter lunch with little walking, choose mules and add the overshirt open. Test the mules on the route’s surface before committing; choose the trainers if they are the more secure pair for you.

Work: in a workplace that explicitly permits denim, use the overshirt, ivory vest and mules for a mostly seated creative-office day. Where trainers are accepted for standing tasks, switch to the cream pair and remove the overshirt if the light version suits the room. Check seated waist comfort and bag access. This doesn’t cover a business-formal dress code.

Wedding: reserve this combination for an expressly denim-friendly, very relaxed daytime celebration. Choose dark undistressed jeans, ivory vest, open tan overshirt and mules when those details fit the couple’s guidance. If trainers are welcome, the cream pair offers the second route with the same bag and either layer choice. Confirm pale tops and casual denim are welcome; for an ordinary formal invitation, select a different guide.

If the hem catches in either shoe, shorten it appropriately, choose the other shoe or use a straighter jean. Stop once the waist is comfortable, both shoes are secure and the rear hem stays off the ground. More accessories won’t fix that last check.
