Plum can be a bright colour without becoming a large block. Close to the upper lashes, a clear violet-plum pencil gives the eye a small, definite edge; neutral lips leave that colour some space. The scale of the mark matters as much as the shade.
Choose a plum you can see
Look for an eye-intended pencil whose plum remains visible against your own skin and lashes. A near-black aubergine may be a good dark liner, but it gives a different effect from this brighter interpretation. The name on the pencil is a starting point, not a prediction of the result.
Use a familiar pencil with a tip you can comfortably control. Follow its directions and keep the mark on the external upper-lash edge, away from the waterline and inner rim. A clean small eye brush can soften the upper edge without adding a second shade.
Give the colour a small place
Put a short plum mark along the outer upper lashes, then open the eye and look straight ahead before extending anything. Repeat a comparable visual weight on the other eye, respecting the space you can see comfortably. There is no compulsory angle and no need to attach a wing.
If you soften the line, use the clean brush with a small movement along its upper edge. Keep the lower boundary close to the lashes. A broad plum haze is a different placement; do not keep blending until a short line becomes a whole lid.
Use neutral lip colour within the natural lip shape, applying with its own familiar clean tool. The mouth should support the plum. A neutral on you may have more rose or brown than the neutral on someone else; choose by its quiet role beside the eye.
Keep the relationship when plans change
Work: check the line with your eyes comfortably open and beside your actual work clothes. Follow your setting’s expectations; the short segment can supply the colour without a larger eye shape.
Evening: look in a second ordinary light. If a section is missing, fill within the existing mark rather than automatically lengthening it. Neutral lips can stay unchanged.
Weekend: soften just the top edge and leave the rest of the lid uncoloured. The brighter plum can sit beside denim or a plain shirt without a matching mouth or accessory.
This is approximately a five-minute core for the familiar short line and lip after usual preparation and protection. If the line is new, practise with longer or omit it today. Lift a stray mark locally with a suitable remover rather than thickening both sides to match, and stop using any product that irritates.
Finish while the plum is still a small clear interruption. Its colour has already done the work that a larger shape would ask you to repeat.
Makeup placement and colour are personal choices; adjust the steps to suit you. Follow the directions on your own products.
